Everything in this game is made by the players. Everything. To make science items you will need resources, which are what is used to create them. It is also the game's money.
You can start out getting resources by killing monsters or using the dig command (default U key). Also hit the "Customize" button to open the science tab. Look in the science tab and you will see a shovel, hand drill, and "drill" (which is a big drill). As you get resources you can create the shovel, then the hand drill, then the big drill, which will help you gather resources faster. The big drills are the only way to get rich in the game, you upgrade the drill to dig on its own faster and faster until you get rich from it. You upgrade it by right clicking it while next to it. You take the resources it has dug up by left clicking it while next to it.
You will also need knowledge if you want to make good technology because knowledge increases how high you can upgrade something
Only certain races are good with technology and it would be very hard to be good with any other race. The best races are Tsujin and Human, followed by Genius Alien and Puranto.
To gain knowledge, simply leave your science tab open. Your knowledge will increase faster and faster until it reaches the current maximum for the server. If you go afk too long your tabs will shut down to prevent lag for others and your knowledge will not increase when this happens.
To open the science tab hit the Customize button near the top right and use the options there to turn the tab on. In the tab you will see all the things that you can create.
Many things that you make can be upgraded after you make them by right clicking it while next to it or while its in your items and hitting upgrade.
Right click any object in the game including things in the science tab, and hit Examine, to read a description of what that object does.
